Q: Why should I work with Furbish Interiors?

A: We work primarily with families who have recently moved into a dream home, and who are interested in approaching interior design as a further investment in the home itself and in their lifestyle. We take an individualized approach to interiors by carefully considering your preferences, style, and way of living. Our clients generally choose to work with us because they share our aesthetic, and want to create livable spaces with personality and just the right touch of luxury.

Other benefits we provide are a full team and an office staffed 6 days a week during business hours. Someone will always be available to take your call or return it in short order. Our Millburn showroom provides you with the opportunity to sit-test furniture and familiarize yourself with the features and quality of the lines we work with. We pride ourselves on our extensive resources and our willingness to go the extra mile to find the best resources specific to your project and to create a space worthy of your dreams.

Q: Do you handle construction-based projects, like remodels and new construction?

A: Yes. We have experience working with builders to plan interior finishes and materials for new construction projects. We also handle major renovations of existing homes, including kitchens, bathrooms, and additions. We manage the full project from hiring the architect and contractor, to finishing touches.

Q: How do you charge for design services?

A: Fees and prices are variable from project to project, based upon the scope. We take a per room fee for a full redesign of a home or specific spaces in the home. For construction-based projects fees are based on total budget for project. For smaller projects we may suggest hourly or fixed consultation fees.

Q: Who will be working on my space?

A: You will have a team headed by Furbish owner, Uma Stewart. Other team members may include a design assistant, associate designer, or architect, as well as our business manager, who handles invoicing and other project details.

Q: How do we get started?

A: We will come to your home to do an assessment and interview. From this first meeting we can get a sense of what you need, what your budget requirements are, and most importantly, what will turn your house into your dream home. It will be very useful for you to take some time to review design resources and really hone in on your design likes and dislikes before or immediately after this meeting. You can use our library or put together your own clip file. This is not always necessary, but it often prevents false starts and helps to ensure that we are on the same page. If you are struggling with identifying your style, we are masters at intuiting your style and helping you build a vocabulary to define it. Once we have enough information we will create a written assessment of your project in a letter of agreement, and begin to do a first cut at materials for your home. We often like to do an in-studio meeting to review potential directions before finalizing your design plan. You are able to see our retail showroom and our resource library and review color and fabric choices and major furnishings we are considering for your home. Our next meeting will be to present your design plan.

Q: What does the design plan include?

A: The design plan starts with a floor plan of the rooms in consideration for your project. We will provide a minimum of two floor plan options for you to consider, as well as two to three sets of fabric and finish schemes, and selections with back up options for the major furnishings in your rooms. We will also provide selections for any major accessories that are central to the design. Once you have approved an initial set of options we will fill in details, suggest replacements or alternatives, and finalize the design.

Q: Where do you source furnishings from and do you discount for design clients?

A: Furbish Interiors sources from the best designer resources in the industry and has access to a very wide range of manufacturers in a wide range of price points. We love to mix high and low in interiors when it does not compromise the overall effect and sophistication of the design.

We work on a stated-price basis, which means we provide the price on a dated quote and you have the opportunity to accept or decline purchasing based on your budget. Pricing on furnishings usually incorporates generous discounts of 15% to 30% off retail.
